For the Love of Reading

Have you been stuck in a rut? Need to relax? I suggest reading. For some reason that I haven’t figured out yet people have gotten away from reading. I don’t know if it’s because people view reading as boring or they view it as a chore but I find reading to be very relaxing.

My love of reading came as a child. I would ask my mom the definitions of words or if I didn't understand something I would ask her what a phrase was or who someone was and she would always tell me “go look it up”. When I was a kid that used to get on my nerves but as I grew up I realized that she was trying to get me to research about subject matters on my own and from that research eventually I will catch some information and become interested. And it worked! The more she did that (which was just about every time I asked her a question) the more I developed a genuine love for reading and it didn't matter what the subject matter was I just loved reading! The challenge of trying to find out something new is why I love reading and it relaxes me because whether I am reading for leisure, for school, the newspaper or self-help the rush that I feel from learning something that I didn't know previously is why I will always be a life-long reader!

I know there has been a time when you need to unwind and just relax from the day; perhaps there is something that you really wanted to know or do but didn't know how to go about proceeding. The next time you feel like that… start by picking up a book on something that interests you and see how reading makes you feel. I would love to know your thoughts and make sure you tell me what book you selected and why……maybe I will find new material for myself!

"There are many people who can do big things, but there are very few people who will do the small things" -- Mother Theresa

This very quote pretty much describes me as a person. I have many things going on all the time, just about every second of the day. I am a wife, mother, student, teacher, supervisor at my job, life coach and counselor. I am many things to many different people and that is fine with me. I have realized pretty early on that one of my purposes in life is to help people that I love. Not that I am perfect because I am not by a long shot, by my purpose is tied to ensuring that people are okay; that when life sometimes gives you lemons and you don't like the bitterness of lemonade it is my job to put as much sugar as possible in your glass so that you can tolerate that lemonade just a little bit better. As you might imagine, a job like that is very hard, tiresome and often thankless but I love it because I am a nurturer. I have so many different personalities in my life; it makes life so colorful. I have my family which consists of my husband, 3 very busy children (ages 17, 9 and 6) and 2 dogs (never a dull moment), going to school as a full time graduate student, working full time in management and to round it all out friends with very different personalities and interesting lives. Mix that all together and you have the makings of a blog (or a reality show) that has the ability to make a difference. I am sure that in the upcoming weeks you will see yourself or something that you can relate to that will make you smile and appreciate your life and those that are in it that much more. We will go through some heavy stuff (how to deal with a child with a learning disability) to very light-hearted topics (what to do when your dogs talks to you). I am here for insight, laughs and tears.... you know.. everyday life. So I will leave with this quote " "People can call you many things, but you are not what people call you. You are what you answer to." -- Joel Osteen

Until the next time..............
